Movie Thoughts: Viking Wolf (2022)

Synopsis

A small town is in uproar when a teenager is mysteriously killed by what seems to be a giant wolf. A key witness is Thale, a girl who just moved to the town and is the daughter of Liv, one of the local cops tasked with finding out what monster they're dealing with.

My Thoughts

Werewolf media is not usually something that speaks to me despite my love for real wolves, but this one I'd say was okay. It wasn't great or anything, but it was pretty gripping at times and for what seems like a lower-budget film it wasn't terribly shot. 

The CGI on the wolf was decent enough (not fantastic, but serviceable), and there's one transformation scene on a bus which was pretty well-done. Despite being a horror/thriller movie it didn't really scare me, though. But it did have me invested enough in the characters of Thale and Liv to stay invested in the story. 

I also do appreciate how this movie doesn't demonize real wolves. A trap a lot of movies (werewolf and non-werewolf movies alike) often fall into is giving wolves an unfairly negative reputation. But this movie does make it very clear that the creature we're dealing with is a supernatural wolf that's genuinely dangerous, not a normal wolf which in most cases wouldn't attack a human.

So yeah, not a great film, but decent enough. If you've got an hour and a half to kill, it might be worth checking out if you like obscure movies.
