Synopsis
A passionate Mexican horror writer is pulled into the world she created, where she has to find a balance between reality and fiction. On her way she's guided by the Prince of the realm, Herneval. My Thoughts
A neat film about the importance of art and the passion its creators can have for it. Even if this isn't personally one of my favorite films I've recently seen, I do appreciate it for its message and artistry.
The design of everything is really neat, dark but also appealing to look at to an extent. The animation is good and rough around the edges, but it's very fitting for the type of story it's trying to tell. This movie in general has a really cool visual style going on. I especially liked the designs of Herneval's kind.
I also enjoyed the characters of Frankelda and Prince Herneval, they were enjoyable and I liked the relationship they had.
If I do have to bring up some negatives, it's that's at times I found the story a tad hard to follow, and I didn't particularly care much about the villain, Procustes. He's not bad but...I don't know, I think he could've been stronger.
Overall this is a neat film and I do recommend it. Just don't expect it to be perfect.
