Synopsis
The young prince of Eternia named Adam is sent to Earth for his own safety. Here, he grows up and is eventually summoned back to his home planet to save it using a magical sword. Adam will now have to stand up and be the true hero he's destined to be.My Thoughts
I don't have much context going into this other than the old memes and a bit of Masters of the Universe: Revelations. And I do know that Adam has a sister called Adora somewhere as well. But this just to say: I don't have much of an idea of what He-Man really is about other than the bare basics.
But this movie...it's genuinely fun. Not great, but I legit had a really good time with it. The characters are fun, the locations look whimsical and colorful and interesting, the plot kept me consistently engaged, it has a great villain, and the humor is on-point.
I was at some points afraid that maybe they were going to be taking this either too seriously or be making it too silly, but it manages to strike a good balance between the two. It does have its silly moments, but there's also some moments it knows to play straight.
If I do have a small critique, it's that I think that Cringer isn't in it enough. And I'm not just saying that because I love tigers; he's supposed to be a major part to the main team, yet you can just tell they were trying to use him as little as possible because CGI tigers are expensive. This felt a bit lazy and cheap.
But otherwise I think that this is a good film. Not a huge work of art or anything, it's not great, but worth checking out regardless of whether you have context of the original series or not.
