My Thoughts

I was really anticipating this movie based on the trailer, and while I do think that it's definitely good, I wouldn't call it "Dreamworks' best" like I've seen some people say.

I'll get this out of the way first: visually this movie is amazing. It's just as good and artsy as Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and has some wonderful stylized animations and even some 2D-animated sequences. The use of color is also fantastic here.

I also enjoyed the two leads a lot. Jo and Raissa are both very distinct and genuinely fun leads to spend time with. Raww, one of the secondary characters, is also quite fun and has his own solid arc.

The story was also pretty engaging and kept me guessing where things were going next. I like a story that manages to feel fresh.

However, I do have a few things I don't like as much. First of all, there are too many side characters. Aside from Raww, none of them feel as relevant or distinct, or even like they contribute all that much to the story. I don't think I'll be seeing many fans of the demon baby or the mermaid guy, they feel more like they're just there for comedy but don't contribute all that much to the overall plot.

I also thought that the movie was pretty overstimulating. I get having a funny expression or cutaway or whatever once in a blue moon, but this movie constantly had these moments and it just felt overkill and got tiring. I'd have preferred if they toned it down a little, it genuinely felt like the film was trying too hard.

That said, the villain was very cool and the rest of the movie was still pretty strong.
