Synopsis
When Papa Smurf is kidnapped, a group of Smurfs leave the village to rescue him.My Thoughts
Ooh boy. I wasn't looking forward to this one. The trailer looked so bad. But at the same time, I was kinda going into this hoping that, if it was bad, it'd at least be entertainingly bad. Sometimes even a piece of media that's not good can be pretty fun this way.
But I'm sad to say that this movie is just your average, forgettable bad. It's boring, it's generic, it does nothing to wow the audience. The only thing I can praise this movie for is some admittedly nice visuals, but even those don't really stand out or anything. They just don't look terrible. I also have to question why the movie takes place partially in live-action if it doesn't really interact with the real environments and people/animals there. Seriously, what was the point of that? Razamel's lair being in the real world doesn't even make sense considering he's a cartoon character (and the other humans in this world except Gargamel and his staff are live-action). Why couldn't Razamel's lair just be in the cartoon world again?
The characters are also just so boring and generic and the plot goes exactly where you expect it to go. There's no surprises, no likable and unique characters, no fun twists, no good comedy. The movie is even too lazy to commit to being a musical, with there being two random songs but the rest being song-less. And the two songs there are are generic at best.
This is just such a nothing-burger of a movie. I can't even really get mad at it, it's just forgettable and bland and I'll have forgotten about watching it in a week. Skip this one.
