My Thoughts

This movie has been in my Netflix to-watch list for literal years, honestly probably since it came out. I just never got around to watching it and honestly it didn't look all that appealing to me (as I'm notoriously not big on robot/science fiction stuff). But I did want to watch it eventually, and now I did.

And yeah, it's solid. I do like the two main characters and their friendship feels really heartfelt. I also like how, after Project 77 loses his memories, they actually stay gone and don't just magically come back. I also liked the visuals (it's well animated and has pleasing character designs) and the swearing dog was pretty funny even if it was just a simple joke.

Where I wasn't as fond of this movie was the aspects of the villain (who just felt a bit cliché and uninspired) and the whole concept of this movie does feel a bit derivative of Big Hero 6, which came out only a few years earlier. It's not a complete ripoff or anything, but it does just feel a tad too familiar and hits rather similar plot beats from time to time. So it doesn't feel super inspired or unique as a movie.

But overall I had a good time watching this. Not my favorite Netflix movie by a long shot, but it has its charm.
