Synopsis
My Thoughts
Despite me having loved dinosaurs for most of my life I simply haven't seen Jurassic Park a whole lot. I have seen it on TV a couple of times, but I don't think we ever owned a VHS or DVD of it. I honestly think that by now I've seen the first Jurassic World movie a lot more.
That said, this is still a revolutionary movie all these years later. The characters are likable and distinct, the story is inventive full of wonder and danger, and man, those effects.
Honestly I think this movie visually has barely aged. Sure, some of the CGI can look just a tad dated, but considering how old this movie is, it still holds up so well nowadays. And not just the CGI dinosaurs are great: I love how much this movie uses practical effects. It really works well because those animatronics are really there for the actors to interact with. And because the CGI is used sparingly and interchangeably with the animatronics, it's hard to figure out whether you're looking at an animated dinosaur or an animatronic dinosaur sometimes, adding to just how convincing the movie is.
I also love how this movie executes its themes. Pretty much everything about this movie is just super well done.
The only thing I guess I could complain about is that it's not fully accurate to our modern understanding of dinosaurs, but for the time this was quite strong and in line with the science.
