My Thoughts
This is one of these movies that I objectively think is good, but ultimately didn't really enjoy. There are good aspects about this movie, such as the acting, some nice shots and lighting, and some interesting characters.
But man, this movie dragged. It did not need to be over two hours long. At first I was pretty engaged, but after 45 minutes or so I just kinda lost interest because things were progressing so slowly and so little was happening in this long runtime.
There's also a huge focus on romance in this movie and not as much on Johnny's musical career and substance abuse. And as someone who generally isn't interested that much in romance, this just didn't hook me as much. We get it, he is in a bad relationship with Viv and loves June, we didn't need to spend almost the full runtime of this movie just on focusing on the romance aspects of the movie.
So yeah, I do think that this is a pretty good movie, but I myself didn't really enjoy it. Too slowly paced, too little happening, and too much focus on romance.
