Synopsis
White Fang and his new owner must defeat a group of prospectors trying to find the gold vein belonging to the late Benjamin Dover.
My Thoughts
So of all the White Fang adaptations I've looked at before, this one does not have a direct precursor. If anything, it's more of an unofficial sequel to 1973's White Fang. But aside from the main character being a German shepherd with that titular name, there's very little connection here.
The story was honestly just boring. I didn't care for any of these characters. Our main lead (aside from White Fang), Burt, pretended to be his late friend for a reason I really couldn't discern. Did he just want to get rich off of Dover's gold? He also pretends to be Kim's father, when he's not. Weird stuff. Kim, our generic kid character, was pretty much useless and constantly needed rescuing. He also couldn't act.
White Fang himself is also just a boring character in this. He's just a generic heroic dog. No interesting personality to him. He does do some impressive tricks, but other than that I was so bored by him.
There's also some very questionable animal ethics in this movie, especially regarding the bear. It's in constant clear distress, letting out loud calls and moving to and fro, and there's even a scene where they pit the dog and bear together and they fight. Smells like animal mistreatment to me.
So needless to say this wasn't a very good movie. It was boring. Genuinely don't have much to say about it. Just boring.
