My Thoughts

Prefacing this review with this: I can't hate this movie. Yes, I know it's bad. Yes, this whole band stuff has absolutely nothing to do with the actual first Fox and the Hound movie. Yes, the characters in the dog band are unlikable assholes who constantly argue.

But I am at the same time also very nostalgic for this movie, it's probably one of my most-watched Disney sequels as a kid. This was one of my favorite Disney sequels growing up. Tiny me had no taste, lol

But yeah, objectively speaking, this sucks. The main reason honestly isn't even the shitty band or the downgrade in character writing and animation. It's simply the fact that there's no place where this movie could've taken place in the first movie (with this being a midquel). Tod and Copper only knew each other for a few days in the original before being separated, so there's literally no place for this to take place.

But okay, let's get back to the band. Man, I hate these guys. Especially Cash and Dixie. Granny Rose and the twin hounds aren't too bad (they're mostly just there for shitty comic relief), but Cash and Dixie are the worst. They constantly argue and are being selfish and trying to one-up the other while exploiting innocent children in the conflict and I hate them for it. I honestly don't see Cash and Dixie getting back together as a good thing, because their relationship sucks and I genuinely feel it's very likely that they'll start arguing again in a week's time.

I also don't get why I would root for this band in the first place. Cash and Dixie being unlikable aside; their main goal is literally to win this talent show and "get famous". Why on Earth would by be rooting for such a selfish goal as wanting to be famous?

The animation also had a significant downgrade from the original, honestly Tod also just looks completely different from his movie one design for some reason? He looks older here, and lacks his asymmetrical front paw "socks".  The only thing visually I kinda like about this movie are the backgrounds (when not trying to shittily blend 2D with CGI) and the use of color; the autumn color palette can be pretty nice in this.

But yeah... this is objectively not a good movie. It's probably among the worse Disney sequels, though I haven't seen all of those by far. However, like I said before, I can't hate this movie, I'm too nostalgic for that.
