My Thoughts

Okay, so, this is still bad. The first movie was bad, and this is bad. Buuut I'll give this one credit in that it's at least a very, very mild improvement over the first movie.

Oh, don't get me wrong, this is still an absolute trash movie and I don't recommend anyone seek it out, but if I had to choose between this one and the first, it'd be this one.

The main reason that this one is better than the first is this: It at least isn't as annoying and it does shut up from time to time, whereas the first movie was just too busy and overstimulating at times, especially during the first 30 minutes or so. This movie still sucks, but at least there isn't as much noise and over-animated zaniness on screen for a lot of time.

The movie also sports a mostly new cast of characters with very few returning members from the first movie, which feels a bit odd since characters like Duke, Janus and Amur were so central to the first movie, yet they're nowhere to be found over here. We do see Panda as a teenager now, which I guess is something, and there's some new characters. We also finally have a major female character added to the cast this time around, wow. I can't believe it took this long.

I also have to say that the animation is mildly better than the first. The models aren't all that great and some still kinda fall into the uncanny valley (see: Oscar), but at least the animation isn't as choppy and logic/physics-defying as it was in the first movie, where even by cartoon logic some shots just flat out didn't make sense or looked really crappy. That's not to say that this film has amazing animation or anything, but it at least doesn't look as terrible and as choppy as the first movie.

But yeah...that's kinda all the credit I can give this movie. It's still trash, just not as trash as the first. If that's the biggest compliment I can give your movie, that's a problem. Not looking forward to the third movie.
