Synopsis
My Thoughts
This movie is just cute and wholesome. That's really the best way to describe it. Just a feelgood, nice experience that makes you feel the warm fuzzies inside.
It's nothing grand, nothing groundbreaking, but for what it is, it is super effective at what it does. If you just want a sweet movie about friendship, this is the one for you.
The movie is animated beautifully and they also made the choice of not having the characters talk, a choice I could really get behind. But despite there being no dialogue and mostly just a combination of a lot of silent scenes where the characters are just having fun or going through life or having a dream/vision, it never felt like it dragged or like things were getting old or anything.
The characters are also just really sweet. They're simple and of course have no dialogue, but you still really get an impression of what they're like. They're just really likable and sweet, and the relationship between Robot and Dog, and later on Robot and Rascal, feel genuine.
The ending is a bit heartbreaking (where Robot and Dog both move on with their lives and don't reunite), but it's still a good ending to the movie. I do wish we got to see them together again, but this ending, even if less satisfying, is also a good and well-written one.
If I do have a criticism for the movie, it is that the character designs on the animals aren't my favorites, particularly the ones with huge foreheads and short muzzles. I don't know, something about those just looked kind of "off" to me. But that's really all I can complain about here.
Great movie, do please watch it if you can.
