Synopsis
A French family is transported back in time to the medieval ages, to a village where each night four werewolves plague the town. They will have to find a way to defeat the werewolves in order to get back home.My Thoughts
I did play the game this movie is based on a few times when I was younger, so I know the basic gist, even if it was long ago. And honestly, even without having played the game, I feel that a watcher could still understand and get something out of this movie.
However, I wouldn't call it good. It was honestly just kind of a "meh" movie. I found it to be rather hit-and-miss for me. It's a simple movie with a simple premise, and that doesn't have to be bad. But at the same time it just didn't quite work for me.
A lot of the moments that are supposed to come across as heartfelt or funny just didn't really come across as such to me. I would be lying if I said there were no funny or heartfelt moments here; there are, but they are few and far between. Most of the movie is just kind of "there", it did play out but it did nothing for me on an emotional level. It didn't resonate, and honestly it could even be quite cringeworthy at times.
So yeah, not a very good film if you ask me. Some of the effects also don't look very good and the werewolf fight in the climax has such a shaky camera and quick shots going on that it's hard to tell what is even happening.
I don't think this is a terrible movie or anything, but it also wasn't good and just didn't resonate with me at all. It didn't challenge me, it didn't make me laugh, it didn't resonate with me emotionally (except one scene near the very ending regarding the grandfather's dementia). It's just a movie that just kind of exists, being a movie but not having much more to it.
