Synopsis
My Thoughts
Fun fact, I went into this movie completely blind. Didn't look up any trailers or synopsi, I just went and saw it because my friend wanted to watch it with me.
And boy am I glad that I saw it, because this is actually really good. It's a beautifully crafted movie about this man's life's story. It's gripping, it's emotional, it's depressing, but there's also moments of levity and comfort.
I don't even have that much to say about it. It's just great. John was a very likable person and he felt very realistic. I don't have Tourettes, nor do I know any person who has it, so I can't speak to how accurate this portrayal is. But I do have to say that the movie definitely got me to think more about the condition and the struggles that come with having it.
I also just really loved the character of Dottie, who is pretty much John's no.1 supporter from the day they meet. She's pretty much his mother from that moment on, because his real mother quite frankly sucked at supporting him. Dottie meanwhile befriends John from day one and pretty much adopts him into her family. I don't know man, this was just really heartwarming and wholesome to see. Made me tear up a little.
The movie also has a pretty positive ending. John becomes an educator on Tourettes to many people with and without the condition alike, he's given a medal, he somewhat makes up with his biological mother, and he is allowed to test a device that might help people with Tourettes in the future. Just a neat ending to his story.
Overall a great film, absolutely recommend it. It legit made me quite emotional at times.
