My Thoughts

This movie came out right around the time I started to engage more frequently and seriously with movie-watching (before it was mostly just a hobby but I didn't write much reviews), and I did plan on seeing it back when...but it just never happened. Even on streaming or DVD I just never really ended up taking the time to sit down and watch it. Until now.

And it's solid enough, I quite liked it. For a final title put out by Blue Sky (unless you count Nimona), it's pretty dang good. I'm not the biggest fan of all their movies overall, but this was a solid film to go out on. I wish they got to keep making more stuff.

Overall this is just a neat spy movie, with some cool action scenes, likable characters, and great animation. I was initially a bit skeptical at the whole "main character turns into a pigeon" plot point, but I think it was executed pretty well.

I did find some of the humor a bit unfunny though. Also, while I wholeheartedly agree with the pacifism message, I do kinda feel that it isn't always applicable in the real world, as much as I want it to be. In this movie they can fight armed bad guys with all sorts of silly inventions and devices to incapacitate them in a non-lethal, usually cute and funny way. But in real life when you're fighting killer drones and people with guns we simply don't have these devices. So while I totally agree with the message, I think it's a bit too optimistic to imply that it has much applicability in real-life. I wish it worked like it did in the movie, but it simply doesn't.

But overall this is a nice movie, not fantastic but I enjoyed it.
